Framed or unframed, that's the question
This canvas print is beautiful enough by itself to require a frame; some would argue a print without a frame is presented to its very best advantage. True or not, the print is ready to hang on your wall, contrary to paper prints, which typically need a frame and glass plate for hanging and preservation. Paintings on canvas and canvas prints are generally better served by not being in glazed frames. An unglazed frame, particularly a floating frame, is recommendable as it is a very effective way of presenting the artwork. Care needs to be taken when settling on frame and finish to ensure the artwork doesn’t appear boxed in and constricted. The image to the right shows a 29.5276x29.5276 in (75x75 cm) canvas print in a floating frame of untrated pine wood. A narrow space is left between the edge of the canvas and the inner edge of the frame. This space gives the canvas the appearance of floating, providing room for the canvas to breathe as it were. It prevents the artwork looking and feeling boxed in. Other words in use for a floating frame are floater frame, box frame, and tray frame.
